SWEAT IT BALI - The Complete Guide to the Best Gyms in Bali

Fitness freaks and gym junkies I hear you. Finding somewhere to workout whilst travelling is usually harder than the cardio but in Bali there is a strong and ever growing gym scene. If you want to balance out the holiday naughties or smash your weight training then Bali is home to some of the hottest fitness institutes around. From swanky studios to sweaty CrossFit boxes and everything in between, I’ve done the hard part for you by mashing all my top picks into one. Keep reading to find out where to go for your next workout in Bali.


Wanderlust Crossfit | Canggu

If you’re a Crossfitter and you’re in Bali you have to drop into Crossfit Wanderlust. Well known around the world as the largest and most equipped CrossFit gym in the whole of Bali, it naturally brings in the big guns. Although Wanderlust isn’t for the faint hearted, beginners are more than welcome here and everyone gets a great workout no matter your experience. The group classes are large, probably one of the biggest you’ll join in with (especially on the weekend) coached by industry expert Crossfit trainers who won’t let you leave without shedding half your body weight in sweat. The gym is separated into a classes floor, open gym floor, mobility floor and healthy cafe. They have 3 rigs, lots of space and heaps of high spec equipment. The gym is big enough for them to be able to run a class and open gym at the same time (with room to share!). Wanderlust offer drop-in classes as well as class packs and memberships. The timetable includes Crossfit, Movement, MetCon, Olympic Lifting, Kids Club and mobility WODs. You can also do you own workouts or use a personal trainer. You also get discounts at associated cafes, restaurants and spas.


Great for: Intense Crossfit classes with a big community.

Strength 2 Strength / CrossFit S2S | Canggu

Despite CrossFit holding the reputation that it’s only for hardcore athletes, it is mostly a friendly community offering an awesome workout for all levels. The best thing about S2S is the welcoming coaches and fun WODs. If you’re still too intimidated to try then maybe start with the beginners class. The gym isn’t big so space can be tight but don’t worry, you’ll be happy you showed up. They offer drop in's and open gym passes on a weekly, monthly and yearly basis.


Great for: Fun CrossFit workouts for all levels.

Where? Jl Raya Semat No 1, Berawa


The Nest | Canggu

An instagramable functional fitness facility with beautiful people in a modern, bohemian inspired boutique environment. This place fits in well with the tropical island vibe around Bali but throws in a sweaty combination of strength, real functional movements, cardio and interval training, decked out with the best equipment. They offer a variety of fun small group training classes with some island themed classes such as the Surf, Cut and Core Class, Happy Hour open gym and Female Fit. They also have personal trainers available, to help you kick your own butt into shape. At The Nest you can do single classes, combo-classes and unlimited packages, alongside personal training and an option for open gym sessions.


Great for: Functional fitness training in a beautiful, clean boho gym & female fitness.

Crossfit Seminyak | Seminyak


Seminyak design their CrossFit WODs to offer a full body workout that combines elements of cardio, weightlifting, gymnastics, core training and more. Suitable to all levels because they scale load and intensity accordingly to each individual. They also have a Bootcamp program that is constantly varied, meaning each class will bring a whole new workout with a different format, different movements and time domains. With their industry expert coaches they will teach you the right technique to perform quality lifts. Everyone can benefit from the strength, power, coordination, mobility and balance that is involved in the Olympic Lifting classes. CF Seminyak offer drop ins, class packs, monthly and yearly memberships and personal training.


Great for: Constantly varied workouts and Olympic lifting with expert coaches.

Crossfit Fortitude Bali | Seminyak

A great location in Seminyak, Crossfit Fortitude is a modern, air conditioned gym with some high calibre equipment and expert coaches. Mostly focused on Crossfit classes that cover strength, conditioning, barbells and ooze high energy. They also have open gym available in between classes. After your super challenging workout, my recommendation is to head around the corner to Mrs Sippy day club for food and chillz.


Great for: Community driven crossfit workouts that will challenge you.

Open daily: Mon-Fri 7am – 7pm, Sat 8am – 5pm, Sun 10am – 5pm.


Bali MMA | Canggu

If you really want to put you body through its paces, or you live by the “go hard to go home” mantra then Bali MMA is calling you. Recognised internationally as Indonesia’s number one mixed martial arts academy, Bali MMA pulls in world champ fighters and is home to more than 25 professional athletes. As scary as it sounds, this gym has a friendly feel behind the punches and offers a comfortable and approachable vibe no matter your ability. If you’re ready to work hard in your next sweat sesh, head here. Bali MMA offer drop in classes as well as unlimited weekly, monthly and yearly training memberships. You can also request personal training sessions.


Great for: World-class MMA in a friendly environment.

F45 Training | Seminyak

If you haven’t joined the cult and been involved with the global F45 trend then what are you waiting for? Push yourself for 45 minutes flat in this high-energy, high-intensity, DJ pumping class. It’s a great place if you’re looking for a quick fat burning cardio blast before a day of beach slothing, served up in a nice air-conditioned environment.


Great for: Fast and effective HITT & functional training.

Odyssey MVMT | Canggu

Odyssey is the first of its kind, encouraging you to “go both ways”. Not as sexy as it sounds (but equally as fun) they offer a complete holistic health and fitness solution with a strong focus on surf, mindful movement, strength and high intensity functional fitness. Odyssey’s facilitators believe in the miracle fusion of mind, breath and movement. They are passionate about yoga and functional movement and believe that 'going both ways' is a unique balance for everyone. They run a 180 minute class where you can jump in for 45 minutes at any time, so there’s no strict schedule whilst on holiday (love this idea). Odyssey MVMT claim they are not just a studio but a community of purpose-filled, passionate and fun people who look after themselves, each other and the environment. They offer you drop-in classes and long-term memberships. There’s also an option for personal training, life coaching and private yoga sessions.


Great for: Workouts that balance both yoga, mobility and functional movement.

Bali Training Centre | Bingin

Don’t mind the beautiful, tanned surfer babes and dudes here, thats what you sign up for when you travel to Uluwatu. This training centre hosts Uluwatus best facilities for breaking a sweat. They have a daily class schedule for Muay Thai, HIIT training, kettlebells and Jiu Jitsu. Daily drop ins available or unlimited weekly and monthly passes.


Great for: Muay Thai and HIIT classes

Where? The Cashew Tree, Jl Pantai Bingin, Bingin Beach, Pecatu

Empire Fit Club | Kerobokan

A gorgeous location with panoramic views of the rice paddies, Empire Fit boasts hard-out circuit training and obstacle courses. The founder, a former US Marine, has thrown his military style training into signature fitness bootcamps that use bodyweight, space, weights and obstacles for high-intensity workouts that are fun, unique and effective. They offer drop-ins, package classes and monthly memberships for the day-to-day classes, covering Strength, Bootcamp, Obstacles & Yoga.


Great for: Military inspired high intensity bootcamps.

Open Mon – Fri 7am – 8pm, and 8am – 5pm on weekends. 


The Bar | Seminyak

Not a cocktail bar or a beach bar, this is a different kind of bar to the one we usually end up in whilst 'island life-ing' in Bali. This is the only gym in Bali where the membership includes a personal trainer and personal development plan. You can choose from daily, weekly, monthly memberships that use goal oriented programs to deliver you results. You won’t find treadmills or fake promises here instead its a mix of strength training, nutrition advice and fitness education design uniquely for you.


Great for: One-2-one personal training and personal development plans.

Motion Fitness | Seminyak

Motion is a popular workout spot offering group classes with heaps of atmosphere. Join in with their two week challenges such as ‘Cellulite Killer’ and take advantage of their delivery meal prep service in conjunction with their incredible cafe in Canggu. Individual class sessions are available or class packages alongside unlimited memberships and personal training.


Great for: Group classes and Motion Cafe healthy food.

Where? Jl Petitenget No.8L, Seminyak, Bali

Open Mon-Sat: 7am – 7pm.


Ubud Fitness Centre | Ubud

Whilst you won’t be short on options for yoga or pilates studios in Ubud (my favourite is The Yoga Barn), if you’re looking for something with a higher intensity then Ubud Fitness Centre has you covered. It’s the only place with a fully-equipped and air conditioned gym including cardio and weights equipment as well as boxing, squash and more. They offer daily and monthly passes alongside expert personal trainers.


Great for: Getting in your own training session.

Where? Jl Jero Gadung, Br Kutuh, Ubud

Open daily 6.30am – 10.30pm.


Nirvana Strength | Canggu

Nirvana Strength slloowwwws down the pace unlike typical HIIT sessions in Bali. They make you focus on engaging muscles and time under tension. The classes concentrate on mobility, joint pre-hab and full body strength (a challenge for even the strongest athletes). Think gymnast strength and olymipic lifting. The coaches here know what they are talking about. Nirvana offer drop in classes as well as packages and monthly memberships. Members also get discounts at associated cafes, restaurants and spas.


Great for: Strength & flexibility training with a gymnastic focus.

Soham Wellness Centre | Seminyak

Not limited to the gym, Soham Wellness Centre is a fitness and wellness retreat designed to give you the feel good factor from inside out. Their holistic lifestyle approach is all about transforming mindsets and overall well-being, including a healthy cafe, healing centre and Ayurvedic treatments. They also offer fitness classes from spin, les mills, Zumba, TRX and more more more. You can also take advantage of personal trainers, yoga classes and dive into the world of luxe pool/spa amenities. You can drop in on a daily pass or they also offer monthly memberships.


Great for: Luxe health and wellbeing environment.

Fitness Centre at Finns Recreation Club | Canggu

If you’re looking for somewhere clean and swanky to workout then this luxe gym at Finns in Canggu is the place. They have a fully equipped elite gym alongside a large cycle studio, functional training room and TRX studio all offering fitness classes. If that’s still not enough you can also enjoy the perks of using the club, co-working space, VIP at the beach clubs...just to name a few. Access to Finns Fitness Centre is available with daily, monthly or yearly memberships.


Great for: Exclusive & luxe gym environment.
